How Do Young People Talk Globally?

Every single generation has had and will have its own way of speaking, and slang is a huge part of that. It usually isn’t found in textbooks, so you can hear it for everyone. Music, social media, and just everyday conversations are great examples of that. What is super cool is that slang changes completely from one country to another.

Slang is more than just informal words; it is how young people express themselves, show creativity, and connect with each other. Using slang can also mark who is and the group and who isn’t, so if someone doesn’t know the word, they might feel left out. 

In the US, teens say something like “lit” for when it is exciting, and call a friend “bro” without even being related. 

Thanks to TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, slang travels farther and faster than ever before. A phrase that starts in one country can become completely global within weeks, maybe even days. That is why some words are so widely recognized. 

The tricky thing, though, is that slang does not last forever. A word that was popular five years ago might seem cringey to other people. That is exactly what makes slang fun because it is a sort of secret code that keeps evolving.
